Rocks+Rolls--Some of Our Pet Rocks

I first realized how wonderful Vermont's rocks can be in the early 1970s, when a fellow poet asked me to drive her to meet with h late, great Hayden Carruth in Johnson, Vermont. While they talked, I went with his son to see the forest and brook behind the house. In the brook were marvelous rocks; I gathered a can of them to make into a rock jar (one if my inventions: immersed in water or alcohol, which prevents algal growth, rocks reveal their most vivid colors, because the oxidation layer is washed away). My wife and I have a family of pet rocks: some especially good small ones get to live in the house; a few beauties wait on the concrete steps to greet visitors; and they border many of the flower beds. Here are the ones I think are the most photogenic or geologically fascinating
