TOM HLAVACEK works primarily in the traditional medium
of black and white photography,
often using special darkroom techniques
to create images that portray common subjects in unusual ways.

His recent series Framed,
based on the writings of philosopher Martin Heidegger,
deals with technology
and how it affects our relationship to the world and its objects.
The works in this series depict fragments
of architecture and infrastructure
that are ubiquitous in urban environments
– utilitarian structures that define the spaces we inhabit
but mostly receive so little attention as to remain virtually unseen.
