The Buffalo National River Elk Experience

Ponca, Arkansas view map

the Bull Above is JYD (Junk Yard Dog) one of the big dominant herd bulls in Boxley Valley. There are others and it changes each year.

The Annual elk rut in the Buffalo National River region is now only a month off beginning the end of September and lasting at least a month. Judging from the amount of traffic on my elk gallery, I think more than a few of you are interested in taking photos of the Arkansas Elk Herd. I am an espert on Elk Photography in Arkansas. This year I will blog on Pbase as well as on my regular website and blog about the elk rut. http://arkansaswildlifephotography.com. You may write me too at comptonphotographer@gmail.com.

Arkansas has arguably the most photographable elk herd in the South. The main venue is Boxley Valley a huge tract of pasture land surrounded by limestone bluffs. I am president of the Buffalo River Chamber of Commerce http://buffaloriverchamber.com. Our website is the definitive guide to the river, its hundreds of miles of hiking trails and wildlife. In these blogs I will report on elk movements, share pictures, elk herd locations and tips on elk photography. This has been my obsession for 6 years. So stay tuned. If you had to pick one person to answer your questions about photographing elk in Arkansas it would be me.
