We had a great turnout for this event led by our club president, Dave Rose, on a stunningly beautiful morning. Our purpose was to record as many species of fungi we could find along one particular decidously wooded trail. Because it has been unusually dry, it didn't seem as if we were going to be able to find very much, but thanks to the eagle-eyes of many of our members and their families, we didn't do too badly after all. Admittedly, most of what was observed was basically the usual suspects among the wood-decaying fungi. Among the fungi found were the following species: Ganoderma applanatum, Fomes fomentarius, Trametes versicolor, Trametes hirsuta, Trichaptum biformis, Chlorociboria aeruginascens, Inontus obliquis, Irpex lactea, Hydnochaete olivacea, Stereum ostrea, Lenzites betulina, Polyporus arcularius, Piptoporus betulinus, Scutellinia scutellata, Honey mushroom mycelia threads, Peziza badio-confusa, Agrocybe dura, Pholiota aurivella and a single Morchella esculenta (the last two were found by Lila). Other sights that captured our attention were the wild geraniums in bloom, rock tripe and Oak Leaf galls that littered the ground like red speckled green nuts!
