Gymnopilus spectabilis

Albert, I think, was the first to spot these members of the Corinarius family. They were seated in a fallen branch lying in a ditch along the path. Gymnopilus spectabilis, or "Laughing Gym", is a substantially sized orange gilled fungus bearing a ring zone that stains rusty brown as the spores mature and drop from the gills. The taste of its flesh is intensely bitter, and is considered toxic. It also has hallucinogenic properties which induce uncontrollable laughter, hence its common name.
