Paxillus involutus

Fahnestock State Park, NY

Also known as "Poison Paxillus," Paxillus ivolutus has a brownish-tan, spotted, sometimes sticky cap with an inrolled margin. The ochre-yellow gills are decurrent, crowded and forked. Like the boletes, the gills can be separated from the cap flesh.
