Russula mariae

This is one of the velvet-bloomed dry cap russulas that are considered to be tasty edibles. Its popular names include 'Mary's Russula' and 'Purple-bloom Russula.' Its white flesh is, like russulas in general, crumbly. The stipe is flushed with pink. Russula mariae is found in grassy areas and in deciduous woodlands, especially near oak.
