This beautiful bolete is fairly easy to identify, once you know its common name: 'Spotted Bolete'!
It has a dry velvety red-brown cap dotted with yellowish spots. As it matures, the cap pales to a yellow-brown, but the yellow spots remain. Like Boletus edulis, the round, off-white pore tubes are indented around the apex of the stalk. The pores will bruise olive-yellow. The dry stalk is somehat reddish-brownish. Boletus affinis var. 'maculosus' grows in deciduous and mixed-coniferous woods.
Yes, it is edible!
