Clavulina-cinerea9075.jpg

Fahnestock State Park, NY

This fragile coral fungus bears a profusion of grayish, to grayish-purple or grayish-brown branches. It can be confused with a mycoparasitized Clavulinia cristata, which discolors the whitish fungus with dark spots (perithecia), making it appear grayish. Clavulinia cinerea, however, has no black dots. It grows on the ground in mixed woods.
