Tylopilus-plumbeoviolaceus5.jpg

Westmoreland Sanctuary, Bedford, NY

The 'Violet-gray Bolete' is so pretty, that it catches everyone's attention. The bun-shaped cap is dry lavendar-gray aging to purple-brown. The pores are whitish-cream aging pinkish and the flesh is white. The stipe is colored like the cap, but fades to white near the bottom. Tylopilus plumbeoviolaceus looks good enough to eat, but it is extremely bitter tasting.
