George Johanson led this walk. He couldn't sleep the night before this walk because he felt the chances of getting skunked were appreciable considering he scouted the area the day before and found none. His fears were unfounded. George said: ‘As soon as we reached the best-known area Djerba's husband found a half dozen in one spot and soon others were finding occasional ones. There were blond ones and gray ones and and some were turning brown whereas others were robust and in the prime of life. Some darker ones were rather small but some gray-colored ones were rather big.

Other than morels the only other mushrooms IDd were oysters and dryad's saddle and Psathyrella velutina. We did come across some mycenas and Damon found some small ones that he knew but you would have to check with him to verify what they were as he was often with other people.

All in all, I think we were pretty lucky to have found enough mushrooms to pique the interest of newcomers and I'm so glad that Djerba and her family did well. By the way, Chris Gale stayed and hunted a long time after the others went home and found at least thirty by himself. I would imagine the morel count was around fifty from the group and Chris' after hours hunting swelled the total to near eighty. This is a low total but that was to be expected. However,I think that some of the newcomers will even attend the Foray because they had never seen a morel in the flesh and the enthusiasm was rampant once one was found.

Wish I could have been of more help but as we all know, every day of mushroom-hunting can't possibly be productive beyond our wildest dreams.‘
