Bamboo Shed Theatre

Hong Kong Heritage Museum

This is a model of the Bamboo Shed Theatre for Cantonese Opera.
It provides an overview of the design and composition of the present shed threatre in Hong Kong.

The shed contains seating for the audience, a stage and a backstage.
Audience seating was usually divided into separate areas for men and women.

Shed Theatres were usually made from bamboo, wood and palm leaves.
These materials are highly flammable and fires were a common hazard.

However, this kind of bamboo shed will be replaced by aluminum shed and become a history of Cantonese Opera Threatre.

Such an intricate structure... not everybody could build those... and I bet there wasn't a single nail used ! And then... someone built this one in miniature, every details of it ! Wow...
Again... a testimony to the D3's 6400 ISO... perfect lighting.
