Endwell, NY

motionless

this photo has a story behind it. my bird feeder was a busy place most of the morning - the usual
goldfinches, chickadees, house finches, blue jays, etc., so I was glancing at it ocassionally. Well,
I look out and see a rose-breasted grosbeak at one point. (First time at my feeder) So, I decide to
get the camera out, and see if he'll come back, as I had an hour to kill before work. Well, I'm out
there getting set up, with plenty of birds and squirrels at my feeder, when, I hear all kinds of
noise, and out of the corner of my eye, I see a kestrel (small raptor) swoop from the highest tree
branch, and pick a poor chickadee off one of the lower ones, taking him to the ground, and killing
him. So, the 2 squirrels underneath the feeder took off and headed to the tops of the fence post, and
stood perfectly still for 20 minutes, with just their tails blowing in the wind. And this, is one of
them. that's my story.

I took a more peaceful photo later, from the old standby, the parking lot at work...
