RS-3 BCR 576 switching across from the Squamish Depot. This locomotive was built in 1955 for the predecessor road Pacific Great Eastern, retired in 1985, soon after this photo, and scrapped in 1998.
In the background can be seen the granite dome said to be the second largest granite monolith in the world, rising to 2,297 ft above sea level. It has been named Stawamus Chief, as was the name of the nearby Lake, river and town although the name is pronounced as Squamish in English. The monolith is also called The Chief, or the Squamish Chief and has many rock climbing routes.
