'Tae Kwan Do' - Young Ladies Division

Congratulations from the Coach!

This weekend we travelled to see my daugher (girl on the left) compete in a 'Tae Kwan Do' Tournament.
Although a tad violent for my taste :o) the combatants emerged quite unscathed and seemed to have
a lot of fun. The discipline of the sport requires that punches and kicks be 'pulled' and fall short.

Photographing the event was a challenge.
I didn't like the effect of a flash and opted for the ambient light (florescent)
with the WB set accordingly and the ISO at 1600.I used a 24-120 and a 70-300 zoom
but definitely could have used a faster lens.

:) Ron's right, i love TKD photos. this is a nice set. an 85mm f/1.8 would be perfect for this situation. not just for stop-motion, but also for some subject isolation.

if you're interested, here are some sparring shots i got at our last belt exam:

Vinh would really like this photo. Hey, you should try to pick up a 85 f1.8, I think depending on where you sit, that would be the perfect lens for this. Nice shots though, did your daughter win?

Nice sequence. Very good action with ambient light. Looks like a good deal of fun and excercise. Not a bad skill to have.

Great shots. Reminds me of when a daughter of mine started in karate -- went to her first tournament -- lost BIG time. My heart broke for her! Anyway, thank goodness I wasn't trying to photograph it as well! You've done VERY well here. Great memories!
