Expedition to Parque el Cubano, Javira Waterfall and Iznaga
About a 30 minute drive from Trinidad is Parque el Cubano which, like Trinidad itself is under protection from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). One of the
attractions is a 45 minute hike down the mountain to the Javira Waterfall. The photos will attest that we did go all the way down and all the way up the rather tortuous route. When they estimate 45 minutes one-way that is conservative in the extreme :)The view of the waterfall was rather unlike any we might see in BC and well worth the trip.
On the way back we travelled to Iznaga which is a form of open air museum of a working cane production operation from the 1800s which employed slaves to work the fields. The large tower you will see in the photograph (and which we climbed) was for the cruel purpose of overseeing the work of the slaves.
The was a final interesting stop at ceramics factory in Trinidad owned by the family of our Casa Particular (B&B)hostess, Maria.
