January 18 2007:
Storefront Prisoner Escapes to Woking

I really did want to make today’s entry in the style of one of my favourite photographers here on Pbase, but that was a difficult decision. We’ve had some dreadful weather here today and so was almost resigned to some kind of indoor shot.

But I’m really glad I’ve come up with this as it is a dedication to Jeanne Hemhauser-Ricci who is currently building up her Storefront Prisoners gallery.

But I really chose Jeanne today as she was very much the Queen of the PAD Community in the early days. We always went to Jeanne’s page to see the list of PAD photographers, as there was no Meta Gallery then. The PAD community was quite different in those days, and I’m sure many of you will not be aware of how pivotal Jeanne’s presence was back then.

Whilst in the shopping centre, I also grabbed a shot in honour of Ann LT. I had previously been in the bookshop but I just bottled out in there!

Wonderful comp, Ray ... I quite like the mannequin set against the red image - very striking.
And what a great tribute to Jeanne!
JSWaters22-Jan-2007 17:28
Really nice tribute, Ray. The red and overpowering alter ego looks about to consume Ms. Unsuspecting. Back in the day - must have been a great place.

An excellent tribute, especially after the recent magazine articles. It was great to get an insight into the 'early days'.
An excellent shot as well.

Bill Warren19-Jan-2007 00:15
This is great framing. As good a mannequin shot as I can recall seeing. There is just great interplay between the mannequin and the reddish phot background.

This magnificent composition is a wonderful tribute.
Thanks for the brief look at PBase/PAD history. That is something us relatively new PBasers should know more about.

Pbase's original funny girl!
Had the pleasure to join her and friends a few months ago
for some music and laughs and really enjoyed it.
I think it was a sock monkey gallery that first brought me round to
her images...

You do realize that the woman behind the manniquin quite resembles Jeanne.. right Ray? ;)
Wonderful tribute.. and a beautifully done photo.
Jeanne was the first person who became my friend on pbase.. I was captured by her great sense of fun. She's one of the reasons I don't leave, as well.
