July 26 2005:
Call me Old Fashioned…

Well, after 33 years, my affair with Kodachrome seems to be nearing its end.

I got a note through the post the other day to say that she no longer has her place in Wimbledon and is now only in Lausanne, Switzerland.

I’ve her new address, so perhaps I could go and visit?

But where's the Nikon camera? Don't you need that too to get those nice bright colors...the greeeens of summer...? I love the slides from my England trip. I'm in the ebay market for a projector now.

A lot of good memories with the same girl!

I saw those on Antiques Roadshow!

So let me get this clear. You have to buy more memory every 36 shots, and you can't view the image until you post it off to be dipped in dangerous chemicals and get back a strip of plastic where the colours have been reversed.

Run that by me again! ......

Perhaps I'm being callous in your time of grief and loss, but I look at that brick and think "Damned inefficient way of storing 3.5 gig of data."

Quite a comment on the paradigm shift ... who would have every dreamed 10 years ago that this fine film would stop being made.

A lady like the Kodachrome is worth a journey to Switzerland, if you ask me.
