January 23 2005:
Wood at Wood Street

view map

Wood Street is a community outside Guildford. It’s not a place you go through to get anywhere else as it’s just built on one road that loops to and from the main road between Aldershot and Guildford. It largely seems to be a string of houses with no heart, but I did discover on my travels today that it does have some kind of nebulas. At the brow of a hill, there is a pub, a convenience store, a bus stop and this church. Not a place where I’d choose to live.

However, the St Alban’s church is quite striking, having been built in 1967 in a style that reminds me of Scandinavia for it has a large wooden fascia, when most British churches are built of stone or brick.

Today, I used my Polarising filter to accentuate the deep blue sky, but then I decided to convert it to Black and White. I like applying monochrome to the image when the composition and design is strong.
I was at the mercy of reality today in that the shadows from the tree and the other parts of the church detracted from the dynamism of the shot.

A sketch of St. Alban’s church can be seen HERE.

It sure does not look like your typical English village church. I really like how you shot and processed this.

Oh ... so maybe that's the sunlight on the church and not the moonlight..LOL
Actually, maybe I just grabbed that from last night. I woke up in the middle of the night and the moon was Soooo bright it was like reversed sun. Nicely taken, at any rate :D

Good contrast, both in light, colour and angles.
