Whitchurch is known for its silk mill, seen here in the distance. Whilst now in the hands of a trust with only special commissions, for many years it was owned by Ede and Ravenscroft, the famous robe maker.

A one time resident of the town was Richard Adams, and in fact Watership Down is just six miles away.
