February 6 2009:
Polo Harlekin

view map

Addlestone, Surrey

Back in 1995, VW launched a colourful version of the Polo where all the panels were different colours - like a harlequin. About 5,000 were built by the time the idea was abandoned the following year. Amongst the indivdual cars, the colour mix will be different - for example, the front door will not always be green.

Good lord - it is definitely bright. i remember when these were launched, and I thought (like most people) that no one would ever buy one. Clearly this chap did although, unlike David M, it isn't making him smile :0)

I was out in Wolfsburg (VW factory town) in '95 when they were making them. These little things were everywhere. They still make me smile, but I've never wanted to own one!

This is the whole of four-colour-Feb in one car! Actually, you'd think they'd have more different colours to play with...
Wonder why the cut'n'shut scrapyard-special look didn't catch on? ;-)
