I'm calling this a Common Goldeneye chick because the closest adult was a Common Goldeneye female, and it looks like what other people describe as Common Goldeneye chicks in a brief web search. Brief web searches are notoriously unreliable. The only other birds around were scaups, but somehow I didn't think this was going to grow up to be a scaup.
