Tarantula

Around Home, Southeastern Arizona

The last few evenings as I come home from work, I drive past many Tarantula out on the road looking for mates.
Tonight I pulled over to the side, got out and walked back to this one. I say, this is the closest
I have ever gotten.

Very nice close-up. Looks like the kind we find in west Texas. They are males looking for the females which hide in their burrows. If they get lucky, it will be their final act as they soon die. The females live much longer than the males.

This is a male, Carol. Nice to see you've mastered the technique of addiding another image to your descriptions.

Such fascinating creatures. You got some beautiful shots of this one. I hope you had time to watch it for a while.
