The picture is a little soft because I had to fight the sun glare while shooting this beauty through
my kitchen window.
The Northern and Loggerhead Shrikes are uncommon to rare and I am always excited to see one!
It is difficult to tell them apart unless you see them both together, which is not bound to happen.
The Northern Shrike has a larger bill with an obvious hook and a little white marking around the eye.
The Loggerhead has a stubby bill without the obvious hook at the tip and lacks the white marking
around the eye. Both are predatory, hunting for grasshoppers, small birds and rodents.
