This ladybug (Hippodamia convergens) is an abundant transcontinental insect and the one sold at
gardening shops. The beetles with disperse upon release. In many areas this species estivates,
and hibernates, by the thousands, the masses from which commercial vendors make their harvest.
They can be found in huge concentrations among rocks on mountaintops in the west.
