OK...This Has Become Ridiculous

Western Diamond-back Rattlesmake

I have learned in a very short time to watch where I walk; to look out the windows before I open
the door to the outside; and to open it slowly and carefully looking in all directions before I step
into the outdoors! I've also learned to be very careful just walking around the house (I have
already encountered - safely - one snake and two scorpions).

And, a few snakes along the way on my walks to and from work.

This has become ridiculous. Today, I was very careful stepping outside putting out some empty
boxes when I heard the Rattle! Oh my goodness! Luckily he was at a safe distance and I went back
in to get my camera. I was nervous, though, because he was shaking his rattle!

In the second shot, you can see his rattles over to the right of the frame and in the third shot you
can see his tail, rattles shaking. So was I, I think.

Super series! Have never seen a rattler, though I lived for a couple of years in the Okanagan valley where they occur. Always hoped to see one, but never did. V

Living in the wild. Yes, I know what you mean; have friends who live in a mountain retreat and one morning we came out and a "huge" snake skin was hanging above the front door ~ snake shed his skin (changed "clothes") in the nighttime. :\

Looks like a variety of snakes like to visit your home. They must know you will make them famous with postings on pbase. Nice work and keep a sharp eye.

I love the part of your story where you said "I went back in to get my camera"!

Great shots but be careful. I am so glad we don't have them here - it's
one photographic subject I can happily live without.

Great shots but be careful ... where there's one, there's usually two (or more)

One advantage of living in Minnesota is that I don't have to watch every step. Of course, I don't get super shots like this either.

Your getting mighty brave Carol, taking pics of dangerous snakes! Great capture! He's probably after one of the small rodents that some people consider a pest~!
