Monarch

Tucson Botanical Gardens

The Monarch is orange with black veins and a black border with 2 rows of tiny white spots.
The males have a black scent patch on the hindwing. These butterflies are distasteful to birds
because they have toxins acquired from the milkweed they eat as a caterpillar.
Monarchs can be found in a wide variety of open areas from southern Canada through the United States.
One of the sights I want to see in this lifetime is the fall migration of Monarchs when you can find
millions of them at a few sites in coastal California!
