There are several species of Spur-throats (subfamily Melanoplinae), and they are named for a peglike
process protruding from their "neck." Melanoplus is a genus with at least 238 species in North America!
I don't feel too badly about not knowing which species this belongs to since apparently accurate identification is beyond difficult,
and heavily reliant on differences in the male genitalia!
