Garden of the Gods is a national natural landmark boasting giant, striking red and white limestone formations including Cathedral Rock, Kissing Camels, and Balanced Rock. These vertical formations occurred from gigantic forces tilting the horizontal sedimentary layers upward. The red color is particularly striking at sunrise and sunset.
This site is a must see if you are in the Colorado Springs area. There are many trails that are family friendly, including strollers. Rock climbers are out in full force during good weather and provided entertainment as we stopped for a picnic lunch on the nearby benches.
