This has been a “different” year in Florida. First off the weather was all over the map for January and February. One moment we are almost at freezing and wearing coats and long pants. The next day we could have the air conditioning on in the RV. To make matters worse, I caught a nasty cold and it took almost 3 weeks to get over. The other thing is that this has been on of the worst seasons for allergies. Pollen counts have been way over normal. Not good for my allergies.
As a result of the above, this was my first real paddle. I did take a short one of about 6.4 km (4 miles) down to the construction work and back to get a better view of what was happening. They are building an Orlando bypass and making a mess out of our road.
On this trip, we didn't see much of any wildlife at all until we got to the Little Wekiva River. We did hear and see the after effects of a large gator that didn't like us been too close. We figured it must of been at a nest. We had our view obsured by a lot of weeds. Did startle us however.
We did start to see turtles, and Egrets as well as Limpkin. When we reached the end of our trip on the Little Wekiva, we turned back and suddenly there were way more turtles, flocks of Egrets and gators. Must of reached that magic temperature that got them all out in the sun for warmth.
Enjoy the pics.
