I went back to the lake today where I had seen the Hooded Merganser pair and an immature. This elusive male had escaped me the last time. They are so small. They dive and come back up far from their entry point. Today I brought my 400mm and tripod. I was just ready to go home empty-handed (well, I did have some nice backup shots of scaups and cormorants), when I saw the pair sailing along.
