The Dungeness Mansion has a sordid history. The mansion has been burnt to the grown twice (once during the 1800s and again for the final time in 1959). Two of the owners both died before they could complete the building of the monstrous home (Nathaniel Greene and Thomas Carnegie). The home was built over a shell mound from the Timucuan Indians - who disappeared within a few generations of their contact with Ponce de Leon.
