Does anyone recall a bar called the Blue Haven? Used to frequent the place in the early 60s while stationed at Ft Leonard Wood.

I was born in 1952, in my former years, we lived in the South End, in a place called "Rush City" it was going towards Cahokia, near to Monsanto. Every day and night, we would breath the smoke that came from the plant. Little did we know that, Monsanto dumped toxic waste inside the comunity. Today, I think about, how we use to play on "Red Hill" which was a mound of waste. I went to Easterly grade School, then to Hughes-Quinn,transfered to Lansdown as the first blacks to intergrate Lansdown in 1968. Those, white boys use chase us across Jones Park everyday. We fought back as a group, we got the boys from the hood. In those days, I lived near 29th Street Street. Graduated from East Side in 1971. Joined the Air Force now live in California. I want to say that, if you can survive in ESL, you can survive any where. I miss all the fine "sistahs", BBQ snooks, and the Delux Movie Theater back in the day. Lots of Luv to the ESL...
