The Cemetery Path at Midnight

No it wasn't Midnight but it might as well have been...I wanted to drive to East Los Angeles and shoot this at twilight, but I stopped first to get my yearly update on Cvid and Flu Vaccinations at Costco...and this took too long...but it might as well have been Midnight, it was pitch black dark and in a rough neighborhood...everyone walking past or near me made me nervous...of course there was no auto focus in this kind of darkness...but I did my best and may well try again in daylight. From UCLA...with a good 1930's map

In the 1930s, the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights had the highest concentration of Jewish people west of the Mississippi. There were approximately 10,000 Jewish households in the area, which was about a third of Los Angeles’ Jewish population. But Boyle Heights was also one of the most diverse neighborhoods — home to many Mexican, Japanese, Armenian/Turkish, Italian, Russian and African American families.

The Jewish Histories in Multiethnic Boyle Heights exhibit gathers archival materials, artifacts and personal stories to explore the rich history of the Jewish community in this neighborhood, while also observing how those experiences coincided with the other diasporic communities that lived there.

I apologize...that is not a good link or even search term...I tried to find my way back today to where I was before...but I couldn't do it...humm...but Boyle Heights, (East Los Angeles), was the largest Jewish community in the US after NYC....hummm...I need that link back, sorry I can't find it. The neighborhood has changed over the years.

I did not know, but this is a Jewish Cemetery....to me it was just a very large, huge actually, cemetery that I could see from the Freeway as I passed by at 70mph...The larger question to me is what is a Jewish Cemetery doing squeezed in a very cramped Latino Barrio?

After a half dozen decades in Los Angeles...there is much that is foreign country to me. (which is not a bad thing)
