Monsoon Developing

Quail Creek, AZ

This is a classic building of a monsoon storm. I am looking directly East. On the other side of the Sant Rita's the storm is building up. About 2 hours later it crossed the mountains, bringing lightning and rain over a small area. It dissipated within an hour.

Per Gemini - In the Desert Southwest, mature monsoon cumulonimbus storms typically top out between 40,000 and 55,000 feet. That's where the rising updrafts hit the tropopause and flatten out into the classic anvil structure.

The house you are referring to is a new one under construction. I wasn't paying close attention. but those piles you see are probably bundles (or stacks) of clay roofing tiles staged for installation.

As a side question you know how high the cumulonimbus topped out? But, what I really want to know what in the world is on top of that roof in the background and why? Paul
