02 Newe Water Wheel

A rare case of my driving somewhere to capture an image.

I shot this from several angles and chose this one (which was actually the first taken) because its background was relatively free of distractions. Other angles had cars, houses, road signs, etc.

Just out-of-frame on the right was a goose that exited the water when I arrived. I was glad it did no more than keep a wary eye on me.

Timing is everything. Had I arrived a few minutes earlier, the goose in the water would have been mine (MINE!). But it was not to be. And I'm not sure the goose (which are plentiful in our area) would have made for a better image. How would that reflection look with a feathered distraction in the middle of it? I got what I got, and I ain't going back to get more. Now, an invasive swan paddling on one of our neighborhood lakes or ponds? Yeah, I can see that as being a worthwhile image. We only have a couple of unattractive dams and sluices, from which a beautiful bird wouldn't detract.

T - good point. But many times nature, in this case the goose, won't cooperate. This is where some folks shoot the goose separately, then paste it in where it looks best. Our rules allow this. But this has been supplemented by AI placing a goose (or whatever) wherever you want in the image. Now you become in part an artist, and not just a photographer.

Photography does force one to use our brains on possible options...which is a solid good. Nicely frames and executed, but I am curious about the goose...maybe you should have waited a minute and have both shots...goose in, goose out.

I mention this because I am about to post a Life Guard image...pedestrians in, pedestrians out of the frame....I choose the former, but I preserved the option.

Just a thought, best wishes, Traveller
