16 Winnie the Pool Shark

Boulder and the Hundred Acre Wood Pool Hall

It's a little-known fact about Winnie the Pooh that he had to turn to hustling pool to feed his honey addiction. He took many jars off Peter Rabbit and Garfield, while his friends Tigger, Kanga, and Eeyore cheered him on, sometimes joining him in drunken fights with Paddington Bear. This slide into depravity cost him his friendship with Piglet, who had sworn never to enter a pool hall again after that unfortunate incident with Squirrel Nutkin.

The posters on the walls are by our son. He lived in Taiwan for a bit over two years, and got fairly fluent in Mandarin. While he was living with us for about a year after he moved back to the US, he got into calligraphy. He did tell me what they meant, but I forgot. Luckily, Google translate has a camera feature. This is what it said: The horizontal one-- "Everlasting light bed before the moon". The vertical one--"Down to earth, the blind man touches the elephant to review the past and learn the new". Those are probably literal translations of some famous poems.

Hmmm. A great set up, a very fine photo, and a story that is , well, entertaining.
Having been a Pooh fan for both kids and grandkids, I'll have to say I was not aware of his pool hustle. I knew of his addiction, easy to decipher from the books, but a hustler??
But I have to admit that that I lost track of the poor soul over these last years. My youngest granddaughter is 15. I replaced Pooh with Barney the Bear for her stories perhaps 9-10 years ago, so Pooh has had plenty of time to slide.
So sorry to hear this.

Being the oddball I am my focus is on the wall posters, attempting to decipher what they are trying to say. My Asian speak falls short. Paul
