The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha

Quail Creek, AZ

Per Wikipedia: Don Quixote, the full title being The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615. Considered a founding work of Western literature, it is often said to be the first modern novel. The novel has been labelled by many well-known authors as the "best book of all time" and the "best and most central work in world literature". Don Quixote is also one of the most-translated books in the world and one of the best-selling novels of all time.
Cervantes' story takes place on the semi-arid plains of La Mancha, specifically the comarca of Campo de Montiel.

T - I did basic R&D for a number of years. By definition, our goals were very difficult, and many times unreachable. So "To dream the impossible dream, To reach the unreachable star " was generally our quest.

No need to be ashamed. Like you, I have seen the musical a number of times, both stage and screen as I vaguely recall. The Impossible Dream is my favorite, and is highly representative of an experimentalist like I once was.
As for pronunciation, I write it off to "English is a weird language."

I am ashamed to say that I've never read the novel, though I have seen the musical "Man of La Mancha" twice. For some reason, I always think of the old Scott Bakula sci-fi series, "Quantum Leap", when I think of Don Quixote. I think there was an episode where he was in the musical, singing "To Dream the Impossible Dream". I've always found it a bit confusing that the name is pronounced as if spelled with an "h" instead of an "x" and an accent on the "e", but the adjective, quixotic, which comes directly from the character's name, pronounces the "x".

I am certain that this fine porcelain piece stood proudly in your house...I very much like the idea that you took this somewhere where the background was so appropriate. This demonstrates thought and creative choices we all face, but you did well. Traveller
