15 Winter Pond

The ice melted before the snow fell, yielding an interesting reflection, and the Japanese maple above and snow-covered pachysandra in front both added texture. The surface was not completely still, because the waterfall is still running. I will deactivate it in the next week or two and switch on the pond breather (that red-rimmed object floating at left-center).

Not keeping it open so the deer can have a drink?

Are those troughs metal, Paul? Is there an exposed cord that the cattle can bite?

It only uses 40W, so the heating element is small. Just trying to keep a small column open rather than a large area of the surface.

An aerator, I thought it might be a tank heater similar to the ones farmers use to keep livestock water tanks open in brutal weather. They live in a hostile environment and breakdown quickly and that causes the GFCI circuit to trip. Ask me how I know that! Paul
