10 The Golden Key to the Fire in the Floor

I should note for the safety of any wandering souls that may stumble upon this image, this is my floor furnace, there has been some tomfoolery, some considerable funnin` at my expense and apparent backwardness...so I enjoy a little flippantcy myself! Traveller

*flippantcy: Yes I know this is not a proper word

The newest ones are so small one might think “can that heat my home”. Paul

My parents had a modern gas furnace installed when they moved into their built-in-1929 house. The unpainted area on the basement floor showed how large the prior furnace was (the house may have used coal at one time). Today's high-efficiency furnaces are tiny by comparison.

Both my grandparents home and my parents had a home with floor heat. One was exactly like this which I forgot about so thanks for reminding me and a memory lane trip back to the early 60s. To follow up on Dave’s steam heat, another home we lived in as a youngster we had a boiler and steam register heat too. Every now and then if the heat didn’t work we had to go in the basement, turn a valve to add water to the holding tank. I seriously forgot all this until now. Paul

Nice shot, which may or may not solve the mystery of how you bring the heat at home.
It does remind me of when I lived in a dormitory with steam heat and there was a valve
on the radiator to open and close when you wanted to adjust between freezing and baking.

And I suspect the word "flippancy" may have passed through your lips a time or two during court proceedings.

I really like the tones in this shot.
Great idea, great capture.

Now, you might owe us (in Pending) a shot of what's behind the grate.
