Dave - in this case, f/11 vs f/8 is not about being a "fan". It is all about depth of field.

And this shot can use the extra DOF. Well done.

Blushing. I really owe a debt of gratitude to the cicada for posing so nicely in a well-lit location. It actually should not have been where it was. Someone (probably me) left the lid of our recycling barrel open, and the cicada was resting on a cardboard box at the top. The barrel was more full than usual. Most Mondays that box would have been two feet down and the cicada, if I even noticed it, would have been in deep shade.
