13 The Spotlight's on Him

London (Marylebone), UK

We went to a wedding in London last Sunday, and it was more like an athletic contest! Both the bride and groom were bounced high in the air (and carried around) by the younger guests, while the older ones (like me) got to take pictures. There was a twelve piece band playing on a stage with lots of interesting lights, so some of the pictures have some cool rays of light shining across. There was also an infinite amount of drink (and food), so some of my later pictures show the effects of that too! (I forgot to reset the clock on my camera when we got to England, so the time shown is US Mountain time. It was 7 hours later in England)

They did the carrying around on chairs thing too (for the bride and groom). And they carried the bride and groom around on their shoulders too. I think the idea was to burn as many calories as possible, so they could eat and drink as much of the infinite amounts of food and drink available as possible.

That reminds me of the Gymboree parachute when our children were very young, although I don't recall them ever getting that much air.

Whatever happened to chairs? I attended a wedding many years ago where the groom's father (a very large gentleman) fell and broke his arm when the chair he was in gave way. Two doctors attending the wedding took him to the hospital and all three returned while the dancing was still going strong.

This was a fairly traditional Jewish wedding. Traditional enough that the men and women sat on opposite sides during the ceremony with the bride and groom (and parents) under the chuppa, but with lots of modern touches too (the Rabbi was clearly a standup comedian in an alternative life). I was best man at the wedding of the bride's parents 33 years ago, and don't remember any flinging at that one. As for the tall blond woman, she was quite tall, but I think she was also standing on a slightly raised platform in this shot.

What culture includes bride and groom flinging in its nuptials?

Nice capture of what had to be a fun time.

As you say great looking light beams but what I really want to know is if the blond lady dressed in white in the background on the right was a WNBA player. Looks like Yao Ming and her would be eyeball to eyeball. Paul
