12 Isobel

Necessary on a bicycle? Absolutely. And so is a modern USB-rechargeable LED light. Old and new technology side by side.

I have a red light on the back too, but I always use it on the steady setting, not blinking. I've been cycling to and from work recently. I used to take the bus (all university employees and students get bus passes here), but my wife is nervous about that with Covid still pretty widespread (though we have strict mask mandates in this part of Colorado), so I've rediscovered the joys of cycling! Now that it's getting dark before 5, I definitely need the lights.

While the new lights make bicycles more visible, those red blinking lights trigger headaches for many people. A cyclist friend cannot follow another bike that has one.

My wife and I walk the mixed use trails pretty much daily in decent weather (not recently of course) and some bikers ring their bell, most yell out on your left which is very appreciated and I’d say about 25% blow by with no warning at high speed. Paul

Nice comparison of the Old & New. I once had a bike bell, but never a LED light.
