Autumn Colors in Dunn Park

Gardner, Massachusetts

This is the same pond that I entered in CIC 220 (Summertime). In the comments, it was mentioned that it would be a colorful spot in the fall. And so it is. This picture was taken 5 years ago. It looks nothing like this right now; the colors are very late this fall. Usually Columbus Day (Indigenous People Day) weekend has the very best color - but not this year.

I have a friend who lives in Woodland Park Colorado, a few days back he posted on Facebook some pictures he took of the aspens and they were in their usual spectacular form. Paul

Here we had late warmth: 5th hottest September in the last 100 years. We also had a rainy month too: 8th wettest September in the last 100 years. But I agree with Dave that the lion's share of the blame will go to the heat.

We had a very rainy August, so not a problem here. I think our late warmth will get most if not all of the blame for limited color.

Simply a beautiful site - and you captured all that beauty.

From what I have read, almost the whole country is experiencing the lack of color this year, most from the dryness coupled with the hot weather.
A recent article wrote about the lack of fall color in the Northeast causing a major drop in the tourists coming to see the color and a subsequent blow to local economies.
