16 Running Hot

Olathe KS not Colorado

With all the talk about electrical I pulled out my infrared camera and took a few photos of my A/C, meter box and my breaker box. Much to my surprise my dryer breaker was running a little hot so I removed the cover (don’t try this at home folks) and checked the connection and sure enough they were 1+ full turn loose.

Next time I go to Lowe’s I think I’ll get a new breaker since this one is a old style GE and not as good as the newer ones. They tend to stay tighter under heavy loading compared to the 1985 version. And after running hot for a while the metals inside the breaker oxidize and for electrical connection that’s s bad.

Pretty fascinating....I feel like I've entered a science fiction movie....something like Predator with Arnold around the corner...neat shot. Traveller

I shot some IR film of a house years ago but never had it processed. Other issues commandeered my attention.

Very interesting. I may have used one of these once, years ago. But nothing that hooked up to a smart phone.

Straight out of the camera, no editing except resizing. There are different color pallet setting for different applications but I find this one to be the most overall effective.

This is a phone attachment and is not very expensive and quite useful even to homeowners. I think I got this one for 175.00 about 6 years ago. It’s a attachment that plugs into your phones charging/sync port. It helped me visualize developing problems to a customer. After seeing a scan like this one the common reply was “that’s scary looking, replace it” Paul

Shot produced an interesting effect. Are those the colors straight-out-of-camera?
I suppose we should all have such a photo taken of our electrical service annually.
