10 Spirit Seeker

One for the roll scenario. I've been meaning to glue this level to a quick release plate for a while now because I can't see those little ones you get with tripod heads. However, until I get my motivation in gear, it gave me an idea... Yep, the one above.

Like an infrared scope and we're in your crosshairs.

Great explanation of the "how". Very creative, and very well done.
A fine use of light painting which I dabble in occasionally.

I like the final result.

Thanks Paul. It was a 3.2s shutter speed. I didn't use flash, I never really get on with it, I'll learn how to effectively use flash one day.

The light comes from a small flashlight positioned from the right and pointing to the end position (where the bubble level stopped). That's what gave it the glow.

And I just re read your explanation and realize the bubble stopped rolling so no strobing needed. My favorite of the challenge so far. Paul

Now that you describe the process I see how you did it. Great job! I’m assuming this is strictly open shutter, not a 2nd curtain flash firing. Paul

Very cool. My little bubble level doesn't have a flat edge, so I couldn't roll it without setting up some sort of rail system. It also lacks that luscious green glow.

Paul. No, I set up a table with a very small slope and let a 40mm bubble level roll across the table slowly. I had to time it so the bubble level was stationary for 1 second when it came to a stop to get a decent exposure from it.

It took a few goes to get it to look right. But it seems it don't. :-( haha

At first glance and before I read your caption I thought you did photograph a leveling plate on your ball head. Paul

Excellent and it glows too. V+
