So - glad you made the decision and are comfortable with it. Not always an easy decision, but the physical changes help with that decision. But when you like what you do - and you seem to - the mental change is the hardest.

I agree with you - in this day and age, you want the license and the insurance. And Social Security takes in interest in retired people like you when you inform them.

Society loses a bit when people like you, with so much experience and knowledge, retire. I wonder if there is a way for you to use that experience, without actually having to get on your knees or do the work? Two ideas come to mind - consulting and teaching. Having done the consulting gig, you will still need to keep records and have insurance. And you work when you want to. Not sure though who would hire you.

And in the teaching field, I'd have to believe that the local community colleges would be happy to hear from you. Around here, the schools are being filled with students, and industry is hiring them as fast as they graduate. They could use a good mentor like you.

Customers recognize my age and if they ask about retirement I say I’m retiring in 2020. Then they all either say “noooooo”, “will you still work me for cash” or “ nope I’m not letting you retire”. I worry about working off the books for cash since I will no longer be a licensed electrician and not have insurance. Then of course there is not filing or paying sales or income taxes. That’s another one of the main reasons I want to retire to get away from all the record keeping and reporting. Phone number and email both will die within hours of each other! I’m free...... I may need a new cell number too. Paul

Yeah, I have real sympathy for actual working men...and the absolute need for retirement. (Having been a hard working man myself).

It is true that my brain is battered, (true!!!{really}), but the beating a body takes is....cumulative for sure.

Good Luck

Love, Traveller

Hey Dave if you can wait till breakfast then maybe I’ll post photos of what came out of it, how yummy will that be. ;-).

Apparently unbeknown to me I bumped it on a ladder (happens all the time BTW) anyway this time it filled up with fluid in a matter of minutes. I was working along when I realized my knee felt odd, tight is a better word for it. A quick look and I realized this was most odd and went to the walk in clinic and 15 minutes later on advise of the clinic Dr I was on the way to the after hours walk in orthopedic clinic. Some lidocaine, a horse needle with 10 to 15 stabs later all better ish.

The ortho Dr. spoke of the visual effects from the amount time I’ve spent on my knees over my long career. Similar to what Traveller mentioned “battered”.

Good thing I’m retiring early in 2020.
