Re DOF. For my 100 mm lens, my DOF would only have been about 0.2 inches at f/20. Your 60 mm lens is more like 0.6 in at f/20, and 0.16 at f/5
Even at that the back petals would have had the look you want.

But I too like the final result that you have.

I'm not sure I wanted too much more DOF...I likes the indistinct, billowing kind of golden chiffon effect...though maybe a little more would have been okay. But this is why I didn't shoot another tripod shot...generally I am a deep DOF guy...but this seemed better on the first take when I viewed it. Best Wishes, Traveller

Glad you are having fun. Another reason to use a tripod - you want more DOF, so you shoot at f/20. But you also want ISO < 400 (or so), so the shutter speed has to increase beyond what you can hand hold.

When I want natural light, and I hand hold, I can live with ISOs < 1600, as my noise reduction capabilities are pretty decent for the 80D. And like Paul says, I'll often shoot bursts.
But I am shooting more flash now in poorer light, or shade, so I can maintain the larger DOF and still hand hold.

LOL...I'm having fun, as are you apparently. Yet, bee stings are nothing to be sneezed at either...Spray yourself with a little repellent and get in there...(grin).

I like the golden.ness of this...I am considering shooting this in Manual...and this was shot using the live view....something I never do but should get better at, or, at least more familiar with for the odd angle or two.

So, the Challenges as almost always useful as teaching tools.

Best Wishes, Traveller (now up to my fifth load of laundry...ahh a washer girl's labor is never done!)

There are times where a tripod does nothing, such if your outside and it’s breezy or you have a moving subject like a insect. You may remember I capture insects in small containers and put them in the frig for a short while to slow them down. The trick is both warming up timing and trying to shoot them in a environment that looks natural or otherwise interesting which I’ve used reflective plates many times. Another trick is to put the camera in burst and slowly rock back and forth.

Our holly bushes have bloomed and we have a lot of bumble bees collecting nectar right now. Every time I approach for a closeup shot they let me know it’s time to get lost and I heed their warnings... for a few minutes anyway then the cycle starts over. So far they are winning. Paul
