There has been a movement towards grass-less lawns....but it really has gone bad, imo, bad rain run off, it is ugly....and ultimately probably more costly.
My lawn is dead...and some people have complained...we will see how I proceed with this....but no rock garden for me.
Actually that is interesting but I thought the city of LA was paying people (or is that Santa Monica) to put in self sustaining vegetation or rock gardens instead of a lawn due to the water shortage. Paul

Actually, this is fairly interesting...this is a local family that has decided to let their lawn, which no longer really exists, go wild...the city made them dig it all up...code enforcement you know...but it has grown back even more wild, (to my eye)...and they planted wild grapes and other shrubs to fence off the view of the wildness behind...VERY Cool!
