Anytime in Madrid, Jim: You'd be most welcome! Let us know—before booking the flight, so we can coordinate our calenders!—when we may expect you. Bring your tripod along ;-))

I don't know much about BIF in AZ; at the time I was there, I was not in photography at all, and the only birds I was seriously interested in, where all motor-driven: aircraft.

And, finally, as far as Manhattan goes: though, yes, it *is* very expensive, it's also my favorite place on earth (the bigger the city and the broader its cultural offerings, the better for my personal well-being); to each his own... LOL db.

Daniel - I'd love to visit you in Spain. I was last there in about 1983, and enjoyed it a lot even though it was mostly business. My wife, who went with me, liked it more. Most of my time in Europe was spent in Germany, France, and Switzerland.
I also agree, Manhattan is very expensive, and not my favorite place for more than a day or two.

Re tripod in AZ: Lots of opportunities to even use a tripod there. I tend to use one for most of my sunsets. I also find they are useful on the rather stationary cactus. ;-)
But birds? Too fast for me. Let me know when you come to Tucson.

Jim

Thank you very much, Jim and Peter, for your friendly comments: I sure am glad you both like my «Aerobatics» picture too.

And, Jim: I might think about accepting your offer ... though I don't really believe your statement that there possibly could be a manner of regularly taking photographs without a tripod; not even where you live!. BTW: I visited Arizona in the spring of 1982 and enjoyed my stay there a lot; Minnesota would be a completely new experience, though I was—later in the same year of 1982—close enough (?) in South Dakota and (S)wis(s)consin. Maybe you might prefer to *visit me* in Spain (Europe) where I live, or in NYC when I'll again spend a few months in Manhattan? Don't worry, though: my wallet tells me—I'm afraid—the latter is not yet imminent,. :-))

Curves on a diagonal going from diffused to sharper and upper left to lower right, exactly right to lead the eye to the subject - great shot. -Peter (Sum-Won)

I really like how you composed this fine shot. The overall diagonal is super.

Daniel - re tripod: come to Minnesota in the summer or Arizona in the winter, and we will go out and shoot BIF (birds in flight). Nothing like a few hours of shooting without a tripod to help you get used to it.

Is there any *other* way to take photographs than to «shoot from a tripod», Paul?? That must be something completely new; at least, it's the first time I hear/read ahout that! ;-)) ~ db.
Canon Image Challenge31-Jul-2014 03:32
Believe me when I say I understand because I'm the same way. Most of the time I shoot from a tripod, take forever to get the framing how I like and then we come to exposure. I usually have to shoot the same scene 20 or 30 times bracketing like there is no tomorrow. I do feel there is a problem with my camera meter because most shots are more than +1 over exposed and highlights blown way out. I swear my dynamic range has been reduced by about 30 to 40 percent since I first got this 6 years ago. Paul

Sorry to tell you, Paul: It ain't necessarily so. Not at all! I am *extremely* static when taking pictures. I need to take my (lot of) time to compose my architecture photographs. There are no human beings to be seen in most of my «work», partly because they move too fast for me. On several images taken by me while travelling, you can see Cristina from behind: walking off due to her not having the patience to wait until I eventually will press the shutter-button... No, Paul, I can not normally «quickly capture the moment», as you say. It's just that sometimes—rather seldom, believe me!—I'm simply lucky. This was one of those few instances... Thanks for your friendly comment, anyway! ~ db.

No question about it you have a keen eye for detail and can quickly capture the moment which is something I lack! Paul
Daniel Bollag30-Jul-2014 14:12
Thank you, Paul, for your kind words! I'd go even a step further than you do: that smoke trail does not «make» but *is* the shot for me (though the diagonally «inclined» aircraft is, of course, the essential—if I humbly may say so myself—icing on the cake...) ~ db.

That smoke trail makes the shot for me, nice entry. Paul
